PARSHAT MISHPATIM
This week’s Torah portion, Mishpatim, serves as a reminder of the ancient biblical significance of JFLA’s service to the community. An excerpt from Mishpatim, or laws, states “If thou lend money to My people, to the poor among you, do not act toward them as a creditor; exact no interest from them.” (Exodus Ch. 22:24) Each year at this time, JFLA staff and volunteers speak at synagogues throughout the Los Angeles area about JFLA loan programs and the value of interest-free lending. This year, thanks to the Genesis Advisory Committee, we are thrilled to be making presentations at a number of local synagogues, including Adat Ari El, IKAR and Sinai Temple.
LEGACY SOCIETY
The JFLA Legacy Society recognizes supporters who demonstrate their commitment to the Free Loan mission by making planned gifts. JFLA interest-free loans programs assist over 1,200 individuals and families each year. Legacy Society members know that through their generosity, they will make a difference in the lives of others in perpetuity because as loans are repaid, new loans are made. Planned giving is simple and you do not have to be wealthy to leave a legacy. There are many ways of making a charitable donation through planned giving. Examples include:
- A bequest through your Will or trust.
- A beneficiary designation through your retirement plan or life insurance policy.
- A gift which pays you income, such as a charitable gift annuity or charitable remainder trust.
- A gift of property.
For more information on these options, or to inform us of your intention to support JFLA with a planned gift, please call (323) 761-8830 or email info@jfla.org. |
