NEW PROGRAM ~ BRANDMAN FOUNDATION LOAN FUND FOR NURSING STUDENTS
JFLA is thrilled to announce the creation of an exciting new program - the Brandman Foundation Loan Fund for Nursing Students. Thanks to a generous $250,000 gift from the Saul Brandman Foundation, JFLA can now address the growing nursing shortage in Los Angeles county by providing annual interest-free loans of up to $10,000 on a non-sectarian basis to help finance nursing student education. According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services: “California ranks 49th nationally in the number of registered nurses per capita…If the current workforce crisis is not addressed…the shortage is projected to grow by 29% by 2020.” This will mean Los Angeles will soon face its worst nursing shortage to date, resulting in a severe deterioration of proper medical care. This new program, created in collaboration with the Jewish Home for the Aging’s new Annenberg School of Nursing, will enable JFLA to be an active participant in the recruitment and funding of the next generation of nursing professionals. If you or someone you know is in need of assistance for nursing school, please contact (323)761-8830 or email info@jfla.org. LOAN RECIPIENT RECEIVES FULBRIGHT SCHOLARSHIP
Second year UCLA law student Aaron Ezroj, a JFLA Becker Graduate Student loan recipient, was recently selected as a Fulbright Scholar for the 2007-08 academic year. Ezroj’s studies, based in Brussels, will focus on the European Union’s environmental sustainability. When asked how JFLA has helped him achieve his educational goals, Ezroj responded, “JFLA has helped me finance a significant portion of my undergraduate and law school education. Because of this funding, I was able to spend the majority of my time studying environmental law rather than working extra jobs to pay my expenses. When I study in Europe next year, JFLA will be able to fund the educational expenses which are not covered by my Fulbright grant. I will also not have to worry about accruing interest on my loans as, unlike any other loans, loans with JFLA are interest-free. JFLA is a wonderful organization which is increasingly necessary as both tuition fees and interest rates on private loans continue to rise. I am very fortunate to be connected with the organization.”
The Board of Directors and Staff of JFLA congratulate Aaron on this tremendous honor and wish him much luck and success during his time abroad.

THANK YOU JFLA
“Particularly in today’s pressured environment, the idea that an organization exists to assist people with interest-free loans with no profit or self-interest is utterly remarkable.”
“Thank you again for your consideration and the help from JFLA. I just realized you make me feel like I’m not alone in this world. Even though I have no familial strength, I receive human kindness from others in the world which is like family kindness. Thanks again.”
