Domestic violence crosses all boundaries and victims can be old or young, rich or poor, of all races and religions. Battered women and their children often end up with homelessness or violence as their only choices. Economic independence plays a pivotal role in leaving an abusive situation. In response to this critical community need, JFLA created the Women & Children in Crisis Loan Fund in 1996. Two years ago, with the generous support of the Silbert-Goldman family, the fund expanded to assist more women and children in need. Interest-free loans of up to $3,000 are available for basic transportation needs, past-due bills, job training, moving expenses, rent, security deposits and furnishings. Since the program’s inception, JFLA has assisted more than 175 women in establishing a safe environment for themselves and their children. If you or someone you know is leaving an abusive situation and in need of a loan, please contact info@jfla.org or (323)761-8830.
