RESETTLEMENT LOAN PROGRAMS
Since JFLA was founded in 1904, the agency has been committed to assisting recent emigres with the costs of housing, transportation and subsistence while settling into a new life in Los Angeles. More recently, JFLA played a major role in the resettlement of hundreds of emigres and their families during the 1980s and 1990s as large numbers of Jews left the former Soviet Union and Iran to lead safer and more fulfilling lives in America. Today, JFLA’s Resettlement Loan Programs continue to provide interest-free loans to recent emigres to defray living expenses while they seek employment and overall financial stability. Last year, in collaboration with the Jewish Federation of Greater Los Angeles and Countrywide, JFLA established the American Dream Loan Fund, offering interest-free loans to recent emigres for small expenses or closing costs associated with a first-time home purchase in Los Angeles. If you or someone you know is a recent émigré in need of assistance for resettlement or a first-time home purchase, please contact (323) 761-8830 or info@jfla.org.

STAGGERING STAT
In August 2006, JFLA granted 176 loans, representing an 18% increase over the same period last year. Over 100 of those loans were distributed to students pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree or a certificate program in various technical and vocational fields.
