GENESIS UPDATE
|
 On May 7th, Genesis hosted Torah & Beer IV at a private home in Sherman Oaks. Thirty young professionals attended the event to network, nosh on Israeli cuisine and debate and discuss Biblical texts on poverty with Rabbi Ahud Sela of Sinai Temple. The group also heard from a Small Business Loan Recipient who received assistance to start up a university skateboard business.  Sallie Mae, the nation’s student loan provider, recently tightened standards for private student loans. As a result, many students are left with fewer resources to turn to for financial assistance. JFLA is committed to meeting this critical community need by providing interest-free loans on a non-sectarian basis to local students pursuing degrees or certification in dozens of fields. Last year, JFLA distributed 533 student loans, totaling over $2.5 million. JFLA’s program-directed student loan funds include:
