Adoption Assistance Loans

In the mid-1990s, the Jewish Free Loan Association heard about what was then being called an infertility crisis within the Jewish community, referring to the often insurmountable costs of adoption and fertility treatments, which both cost upwards of $15,000 – a tremendous amount for many young families. The Jewish Free Loan Association’s response to this community need was the creation of the Lerner Family Adoption Assistance Loan Program. This fund makes available interest-free loans of up to $15,000 for couples going through the adoption process, domestic or foreign. The program then expanded to include similar loans for fertility treatments.

Helping a Jewish couple create a family is a gift that impacts their families and the Jewish community at large. There are few opportunities to impact a family on such an emotional level. The rewards to the family, to the community and to the Jewish Free Loan Association are tremendous.
