At the heart of JFLA is the General Loan Program, providing interest-free loans of up to $5,000 to individuals and families of all faiths in Los Angeles and Ventura Counties. These loans assist normally self-supporting individuals with money for rent, moving expenses, security deposit, car repair or used car purchase and medical and dental emergencies. One cosigner only required for loans up to $3,000.
The assistance JFLA provides is unique and invaluable, providing cash in hand while empowering borrowers. JFLA loan programs change lives and save lives, working to fight poverty and promote self-sufficiency. Last year approximately 600 loans were granted from the General Loan Program totaling just under one million dollars.
Without a small interest-free loan, some applicants would find themselves homeless, without a car to get to work or unable to receive medical treatment. JFLA is usually a last resort, the only community organization that provides cash in hand for unexpected, emergency situations.
The mission of JFLA is to offer interest-free loans on a non-sectarian basis to individuals and families whose needs are urgent and who may not qualify through normal financial resources. Interest-free loans instead of charity fill an important gap by promoting self-sufficiency with dignity. JFLA is a source of economic justice in the community.
JFLA is alert to emergency situations that can alter the course of life and offers the General Loan Program for Veteran Emergency Housing Assistance.
