The Womac Family

Womac Children

The Horvitz Teachers' Loan Fund JFLA granted our family has been nothing short of life-changing. As a service-learning teacher of 25 years, I often tell my students that true service means meeting people where they are, listening deeply, and offering support that honors both need and dignity. That’s exactly what JFLA has done for the Womac family.

I’ve always believed in the idea of pulling yourself up by your bootstraps—but only if the boots are sturdy. My husband Joe and I have good boots. We’re both hardworking parents raising five incredible children—three with special needs. But lately, the laces have been wearing thin. The cost of therapies and services—often not covered by insurance—was overwhelming. This loan felt like a fresh pair of laces for our well-worn boots, giving us the strength and stability to keep going.

Already, the impact is clear. Our son with autism and anxiety will be working with his trusted math teacher this summer, preparing for 7th grade with confidence. Our eldest—who now only responds to “Michael Jordan”—will join his younger brothers in a basketball clinic led by their PE teacher, offering a fun and meaningful way to bond. These moments are made possible because of your support.

This loan does more than help one educator—it uplifts an entire family and the educators who support us. We’re deeply grateful to JFLA and the Horvitz family for recognizing the real needs of hardworking families like ours. Your generosity has created a ripple of good that will reach far beyond our home. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
