Help a Senior Celebrate True Independence This Year

Every July 4th, we celebrate independence, the freedom to live with dignity, security, and hope for the future. But for too many older adults in our community, financial independence is slipping away.
At Jewish Free Loan Association, we see it every day. Seniors who worked hard their entire lives are now facing impossible choices between paying rent, covering medical bills, buying groceries, or keeping up with rising utility costs. Many are living on fixed incomes that simply cannot keep pace with today’s economy.
The numbers are alarming:
- Nearly two-thirds of the seniors we serve are low-income.
- 87% report carrying debt; and two-thirds owe more than $5,000.
- Loans made to seniors have increased by 20% this year.
Behind every statistic is a person who never imagined they would be retired and struggling financially. At a stage of life that should bring stability, too many seniors are instead trapped in cycles of debt and anxiety, and without safe alternatives, many turn to high-interest credit cards and predatory lending that deepen financial instability.
This is why JFLA’s loans are so critical. Our interest-free, zero-fee loans help our senior clients consolidate high-interest debt, afford emergency expenses for housing, medical, and dental care, or simply regain breathing room and dignity. More than financial assistance, these loans restore something deeper: independence.
This Independence Day, you can help ensure that older adults in our community are not forced to choose between survival and dignity.
Because everyone deserves the freedom to age with security and respect.
Your donation helps ensure that seniors remain financially stable and move forward with confidence instead of fear. In fact, 94% of our senior clients reported that their JFLA loan was critical in meeting their immediate financial needs.
